Description:
This position is in support of the United States Attorneys Office in Lexington, KY, at 260 West Vine Street. The estimated length of this assignment is through May 31, 2017 with the possibility of TWO (2) one year extensions. The Employee will perform the following tasks, but not limited to: *Provide assistance to AUSA s to facilitate the management of incoming and outgoing document discovery in accordance with e-Discovery and other procedural requirements. *Requires the ability to research legal and factual issues to design case litigation support approaches which may include: (1) researching and summarizing factual aspects of cases, analyzing reports, testimony, interviews, and files; and (2) performing research for pleadings, memoranda of law, trial briefs, subpoenas, complaints, indictments, motion papers, and responses to defense motions. *Ability to analyze legal issues, factual issues, and subject matter details involved in a case; Ability to evaluate relevant information, and to summarize substantive forfeiture information to assist in case preparation, and to ensure that information is lawfully released or withheld. *Based on knowledge of the government's case and knowledge of the characteristics of electronically stored information (ESI), assists in eliciting the most complete and useful response (discovery, interrogatories, etc.) from litigation parties and non-parties. *Drafts interrogatories and other requests for information. Evaluates legal issues and identifies potential sources of information that may be beneficial for the government's position in the case. *Identifies, recommends and utilizes the optimal software application for the compilation, analysis and presentation of evidence, such as Concordance, iConnect, CaseMap, TimeMap, PowerPoint and Sanction, based upon the platforms effectiveness in (1) facilitating the analysis, storage and retrieval of critical information, (2) presenting complex and voluminous evidence, (3) producing graphic demonstrative evidence, and (4) meeting individual user needs. *Assists AUSAs in developing the most effective trial presentations using the ALS resources available in the USAO. *Assists attorneys and legal support staff in organizing and processing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as scanning, indexing and organizing documents in a data base. Ensures documents are organized and processed for efficient automated storage, search and retrieval by converting images for full-text retrieval, developing logical schemes for coding documents, linking and cross-referencing documents, etc. with a thorough understanding of the case and the legal issues specified by attorneys, develops search parameters and criteria that filter data effectively to produce targeted information. *Reviews incoming discovery and other requested information to determine whether the materials are responsive to the government's request and whether additional requests need to be made to obtain specific information. *In preparation for AUSA review, compiles outgoing discovery in compliance with the Federal Rules of Criminal and Civil Procedure and in accordance with stipulations and/or court orders. Works with client agencies to facilitate production of discovery in a timely and effective manner. *Prepare and maintains a variety of trial-related documents, e.g., witness lists, exhibit lists, jury instructions, and subpoenas, by applying a thorough knowledge of the Federal Rules. *In coordination with the IT Manager, manages and operates a variety of computer hardware such as printers, plotters, audio-visual devices, and other state-of-the-art equipment to conceptualize exhibits and complete special presentation projects. Applies knowledge of U.S. Attorney and court programs, automation requirements and characteristics to resolve problems. *Perform others duties

Qualifications:
*Proven excellent written and oral communication skills. *Paralegal Certificate. An equivalent level of training may be substituted with the approval of the COTR. *At least ONE (1) year of litigation paralegal experience. *Must have basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation system sufficient to perform basic legal research. *Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and WestLaw. *Should have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, imaging, and telecommunications. *Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Access or other data bases), Word Perfect and Adobe Acrobat Professional or similar applications. *Ability to consistently deliver highest quality of work under extreme pressure will be very important. *Demonstrated ability to review a wide variety of documents, both legal and non-legal documents, including Motions and briefs, and a variety of legal correspondence. *Attention to detail. *Some walking, standing, bending and carrying of small office items *Ability to obtain a security clearance. *Must be a U.S. Citizen. *Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment in conjunction with basic qualifications and/or equivalent level of training. *Familiarity with office machines sufficient to perform recurring operations as well as user-selected custom features, e.g., copy enlargement and reduction. *Experience with State and Federal courts, preferred. *Experience with Federal Rules of Criminal and Civil Procedure, strongly preferred. *Trial experience, strongly preferred. *Automated litigation support experience (i.e. Concordance, Summation, iConnect, CaseMap, TimeMap. Sanction, etc...), strongly preferred. *Experience with organization and management of a large volume of documents. *Current or active clearance. NA
