Description:
The Advanced Solutions Group (ASG) at Leidos currently has an opening for a Principal Engineer to work in our Orlando, FL office.  This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience helping with a wide range of complex virtual simulation programs.  A senior principal engineer may report directly to the engineering manager, although they serve as the manager of their specific assigned projects.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership 
- Oversee engineering projects using both technical engineering and administrative skills.
- Responsible for making sure financial restraints are followed and for timely completion of the project.
- Plan and implement the design specifications for the engineering project.
- Define & develop hardware requirements for the projects working with internal / external customers.
- Create, Review & Approve detail design documents, schematic, simulations, bill of materials, test plans & test reports.
- Interact with other technical / team leads to meet and optimize product design requirements.
- Estimate, plan and schedule project assignments, direct and supervise team efforts.
- Conduct & lead design reviews, take actions to improve product quality, contribute to Intellectual Property creation & protection.
- Execute project assignments to completion with help of assigned team members within the constraints of cost, time & scope as per expected quality norms. 
- Adherence to CMMi / ISO quality process
- Perform first level evaluation of aspiring candidates for role of hardware engineer.
- Assist with designing new products and processes and improving and maintaining existing products
- Conduct design analysis on components and/or assemblies to assist in the development process by ensuring designs are cost efficient, able to be manufactured, and reliable
- Communicate with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and assure project completion
- Lead the designs of new products and processes and improve and maintain existing ones

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below
- Completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor's or higher degree in an engineering field preferably Mechanical or Electrical with at least 10 years of professional experience in the modeling and simulation field or in a related field 
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience leading a team of 5 to 10 engineers
- Experience in writing proposals and BOE’s

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration
- Experience in aviation or automotive industry
