Our Enterprise & Cyber Solutions (E&CS) Team within our Defense & Intelligence (D&I) Group at Leidos currently has an opening for a Chief Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to use your technical expertise and leadership experience in support of our Navy Enterprise Information Technology customers.

As the Chief Engineer, Principal Subject Matter Expert in Information and Communications Technology, you will lead a Leidos Team of Engineers transforming and modernizing the Navy Marine Corp Intranet, a large scale complex DoD Enterprise. Our Leidos Navy Program Team will deliver Information and Communications Technology equipment and services globally to implement, maintain, operate and ultimately transform the NMCI. 

Primary Responsibilities:
  • The Chief Engineer will provide the leadership and technical direction for the execution of the NGEN-R SMI&T Program during the capture phase and into program execution upon award.  
  • Perform as key point of contact for client relations and engage regularly to determine priorities based on the PM guidance, scope of additional work and operational needs.
  • Assess program status, review/approve changes, and ensure tasks are completed on time.
  • Develop the technical plans for engineering function over the short, middle and long-term.
  • Lead engineering support of the following service and Technology groups:
    • Compute and Storage with CSPs and Private Cloud 
    • WAN, CAN, LAN, wireless 
    • End User Computing 
    • Mobility, UC, CND, IA, Exchange/eMail, Sharepoint, Collaboration (Skype for Business) Voice (using Skype for Business)
  • Attend customer meetings, speaking on behalf of the program, reporting to leadership, and provide direct leadership of individual projects as well as architectural decisions and technical support to team members.
This role can be located Domestic US initially with the intent to relocate to DC Metro area. Ultimately this role will report into Leidos HQ in Reston, VA, can be worked virtually up until award. Candidates may travel up to 25% of the time to support the Program. Clearance level required to perform the work is a minimum of a Top Secret to enter the position with the eligibility for SCI.



Education & Experience Required:

  • Requires a BA/BS and 15+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 13+ years of prior relevant experience. Generally has 13-16 years of experience supervising or leading teams or projects. Seeking a minimum of 7 years of experience supervising or leading teams specifically for Information and Communications Technology Services
  • Previous experience as a Chief Engineer or equivalent with broad expertise guiding project and operations across multiple related IT disciplines throughout the project life-cycle
  • Possesses broad IT Knowledge base with key IT technologies to include but not limited to: End user computing, Data Center Compute and Storage, Virtualization Technologies, Networking, Cloud Technologies, IA and CND
  • Recent Navy or USMC IT engineering leadership experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication capability.  Ability to communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization.
  • Experience and ability to successfully Negotiate and influence others to understand and accept new concepts, practices and approaches
  • Experience estimating all technical and operations costs with the IT Enterprise
  • Experience  identifying and assessing business impacts to proposed changes to a largely technical solution or enterprise operations
Desired Experience:
  • ITIL Intermediate certification, DoD 8570 (CISSP), Technical Designations such as Architect Cloud, Network Architect, etc. with extensive knowledge of at least one IT discipline, beyond trade-off level familiarity.
  • Prior System engineering oversight of high resilience data centers, migration of applications, integration of the capabilities under one centralized service management and control system in an environment where security was a significant concern.
  • Experience developing strategic roadmaps for IT services and providing technical oversight to ensure developed solutions, satisfy customer and business requirements.
