We are seeking a transformational leader who will successfully develop, rapidly integrate and deliver Next Generation Virtual, Constructive, and Gaming simulation and training system solutions on time, at or below budget. We seek strong organizational skills and lifecycle experience through all levels of system, software and integration engineering. Must act as a Thought Leader at the organization level for the next generation of technical designs by instilling innovation, integrating new technologies and continually improving available technologies. Must bring a wide range of experience across Army and PEO-STRI training portfolios and be simultaneously comfortable with large complex system architectures and integration while demonstrating detailed orientation to Leidos organizational goals, the needs of a multi-disciplined engineering staff, and communicating with confidence to senior management and various customer entities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Principal Investigator supervises all Research and Development related investigation, analysis of alternatives, System and Software Engineering, and Integration of IRAD and other activities of the Leidos Modeling, Simulation and Training Division on a day to day basis. Develops and/ or utilizes the necessary management and technical tools to track and status all aspects of an end to end approach to various research and development activities, including budget and schedule. Provides technical direction and guidance to meet the rapid integration intent for Next Generation capabilities. Provides significant communication, status and marketing engagements both internally and externally. Ensures that technical projects are executing in accordance with company policies and procedures where applicable and ensures that the project institutes proper process, procedures and standards. Works closely with the Information Assurance Manager (IAM) on Information Assurance and System Security aspects of the various projects. Responsible for all processes that technical work is performed against and for generating engineering cost estimates for new work and proposals.
Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college/university complimented by overall engineering experience including system, software and integration engineering with a minimum of 20 years of increasing responsibility in at least 2 Army domains (e.g. Live, Virtual, Constructive and / or Gaming), 18 years with Masters, 15 years with PhD. System Engineering Management Experience: Minimum 10 years’ experience in SE management or program/project management, involving several program/project types, at least one of which includes product development for a Virtual or Gaming environment. IRAD project leadership throughout the developmental lifecycle. Strong communication skills including marketing and customer interactions.
10+ year’s expertise in areas associated with the development and representation of Synthetic Natural Environments within modeling and simulation training systems that include at least eight years’ experience successfully managing highly complex synthetic environment type projects. Specific experience shall include:
(a) Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
(b) Mapping, Charting, Geodesy, and Imagery (MCG&I)
(c) Terrain database (TDB) modeling systems and formats
(d) Synthetic Environment Data Representation and Interchange Specification (SEDRIS)
(e) Atmospheric/ocean model representations
(f) Environmental/weather effects models
(g) Understanding of terrain source data formats
(h) Virtual and Gaming visual formats and implementation of technologies
(i) Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in working solutions to problems or questions relating to work
(j) Embedded Training aspects of product development
(k) Models and Special effects experience including the Models Development Process, Common Moving Models (CM2) Production, Lifeforms (regionalized), Humans, Animals, Static models and Re-locatable Models, and Ownship models.
(l) Synthetic Environment generation experience producing and delivering associated products:
a. Visual and sensor (e.g., thermal and image intensification devices such as night vision goggles (NVG)) including terrain and models, including regional, seasonal, and temporal representations
c. Computer Generated Force (CGF)
d. Semi-Automated Forces (SAF)
e. Simulator mission functions (e.g. collision, height of terrain, height above terrain)
f. Mission planning database(s)
g. Plan-view-display (PVD) database(s)
h. Paper and electronic maps
(m) Working knowledge of modern software languages, software and networking techniques
