Leidos is seeking a Software Lead Engineer for the Airborne Reconnaissance Low – Enhanced (ARL-E) program to work in ARL-E program. ARL-E is a multi-year program supporting the U.S. Army with upgrading and enhancing the ISR capabilities of their airborne reconnaissance fleet.  The position is responsible for providing the leadership, technical oversight, and day-to-day development and execution of a software architecture to support an airborne ISR system. The lead shall provide Software leadership, and the ability to lead a challenging multi-company team, to successfully deliver an Open Systems Architecture and provide a technical roadmap of future capabilities. Possesses subject matter expertise of agile engineering, and open systems architecture and has the ability to identify innovative solutions to extremely complex, multi-faceted technical problems. The Software Lead Engineer must be capable of supporting the system capability growth and support leadership of projects in these areas. Day to day activities include technical execution, management and oversight of the technical teams working on projects in these areas. The Software Engineering Lead will serve as the primary customer interface and primary interface to the Chief Engineer and senior/executive management.
Preferred location is Manassas, VA (Leidos location), 25% travel will be required as needed to subcontractor and support site visits located in Aberdeen, MD.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Software Lead Engineer will be responsible for design, development, testing, and delivery of open systems architectures for the collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination of data collected by Airborne ISR platforms. Develops requirements analysis, identifies and defines interfaces, system architecture, integrates existing components from the customer, and development new capabilities to meet new requirements. In this role, the Software Lead will be responsible for managing the Software team, execution of contract tasks by working with the Chief Engineer, task order program leads, other technical leads of the organization, and subcontractors. The Software Lead will also be responsible for assisting in the coordination of proposal work statements, including acting as a liaison with the customer for the program related activities.

  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline (major in Computer/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science).
  • 8+ years progressive experience in software engineering and Open Systems Architecture.
  • 2-4+ years direct supervisory experience managing geographically separated team management experience.
  • Broad technology experience in Open Architecture, Agile development, and Distributed Common Ground Systems-Army (DCGS-A), systems engineering, ISR sensors, requirements tracking, testing and validation. "Hands-on" experience developing software for ISR systems and sensors is desired.
  • Civilian and/or military experience with AISR programs. 
  • Proven leadership experience leading and managing small-to-medium sized software engineering and integration programs.  Ability to work across geographically dispersed teams is desired.
  • Possess strong problem-solving, organizational, and verbal/written communication skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project and Outlook).
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI (or is SCI eligible)
  • A Master of Science degree preferred
  • Experience with the management of ISR system development, testing, operations and sustainment.
