Leidos is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer (with aircraft structures experience) to be a member of ARL-E airframe team in Manassas, VA. The position requires an active Secret security clearance.
The qualified engineer will assist with all aspects of airframe design work related to aircraft modifications and antenna/sensor mounting provisions. Candidates will be required to know steps involved in the build process, from conceptual design to final assembly and installation on the aircraft. Candidates should have hands on experience in aircraft mechanical systems and the willingness to work in a shop environment when needed to consult with aircraft production staff. Ideal candidates will also have a strong background in machine fabrication to optimize viable designs.

Lead engineering tasks, which includes, but are not limited to the following:
  • Mechanical design, drafting, and analysis
  • Hardware manufacturing and  procurement
  • Design review for manufacturability
  • Support team QA and CM processes
  • Project scheduling and tasking
  • Program management support
  • Willingness to travel to aircraft hanger site to meet with production team and support integration activities

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace/Mechanical/Structural Engineering and 8+ years experience (may include coursework)
  • 3+ years of engineering management experience
  • Knowledgeable on aircraft structures
  • Experience using SolidWorks
  • Strong manufacturing process knowledge
  • Extensive experience designing structural components, machinery, and sheet metal products
  • Excellent communications skills to interface with customers and peers
  • Strong multitasking and time management skills
  • Ability to address manufacturing issues from internal and external sources
  • Eligible to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
  • Working knowledge of FAA rules and regulations
  • Experience with Army Regulations, specifically Army Aviation Engineering Directorate (AED) requirements
