Description:

The Federal Health Operation is seeking the following types of clinical positions and the minimum requirements associated with them supporting CLINICAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE SERVICES AT NAVAL MEDICAL CENTER PORTSMOUTH (NMCP) AND NAVAL HOSPITAL CAMP LEJUNE (NHCL).

Program Overview


The mission of NMCP and NHCL is to support the national interests of the United States by providing professional education and development, providing quality patient care, being responsive and ready for deployment, and taking care of each other as shipmates. NMCP and NHCL conduct biomedical research in combat casualty care and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), which is relevant to the Graduate Medical Education Program.


Qualifications:

Clinical Protocol Developer will provide technical and scientific support for the development and execution of investigator-initiated protocols and clinical trials at NMCP. This position will partner with the Primary Investigator (EMD) to fully develop an idea from the letter of intent (LOI) stage to an ethical and IRB/IACUC-compliant protocol that can be successfully executed at NMCP.
Requires Doctoral degree in a biological, health science, physiology OR veterinary medicine and three years of relevant research experience; emergency medicine background preferred; Preference given to a boarded physician or veterinary professional OR Master's degree in a biological, health science, physiology OR animal science and five years of relevant research experience; emergency medicine background preferred.

Clinical Research Coordinator is responsible for providing research coordinator support for Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Utilization Committee (IACUC) - approved research protocols. This position organizationally supports the Department Head of the CID, Directorate for Professional Education, NMCP. The position will coordinate activities of NMCP’s Combat Trauma Research Group (CTRG), including human clinical research and animal research in conjunction with the group’s Director and Principal Investigators (PI) of approved research protocols.
1. A Bachelor’s Degree or higher is required. Candidates with evidence of post-baccalaureate advanced education to include a Master’s Degree or certification as a Registered Nurse will be given preference.
2. A minimum of two years’ experience coordinating research protocols (four years preferred) as a certified research coordinator
OR
certification as a Certified Clinical Trial Investigator (CCTI), Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC), or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) or the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA).
3. A BS/AAS is preferred in animal science, zoological, biological sciences, veterinary technology specifically related to Laboratory Animal Research required. Bachelor with certification as ALAT, LAT or LATG with AALAS will be given preference.
4. A minimum of two years’ experience coordinating animal research protocols OR certification as a Research Animal Coordinator (RAC). RAC certification will be given preference

Animal Research Technician (ART)
The ART will serve as an Animal/Veterinary Surgical Technician for laboratory animals maintained in a research facility.
1. A BS/BA is preferred in life sciences.
2. A minimum of three years’ experience as a licensed veterinary technician.
3. Understanding of AAALAC and USDA regulations regarding animal subjects research.

Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the research activities of IRB and IACUC approved study protocols. Specific protocols that require the CRNC’s support will be determined by the Department Head of Clinical Investigation Department (CID) in consultation with the Clinical Research Coordinator and ultimately the Research Director of the Emergency Department. Protocols will include Adult patients and students in the Tactical Combat Casualty Care course as well as animals in IACUC approved protocols.
1. MA Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher is required.
2. A minimum of two years’ experience coordinating research protocols
OR
certification as a Certified Clinical Trial Investigator (CCTI), Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC), or Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) from the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) or the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA).
3. Working knowledge of U.S. Federal government regulations regarding the conduct of human clinical research.
4. Clinical competence in application of professional nursing theory, practice, and skills for the care of patients.

All positions require US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
