Currently, we have an opportunity for a Senior Substation Project Engineer who will work as a member of the local Honolulu engineering team within our Power Delivery Services Division. The successful candidate will help our utility clients execute annual capital improvement projects and solve challenging substation engineering problems. This position requires a combination of strong technical, leadership and interpersonal skills, a high attention to detail and a passion for producing high quality deliverable packages. This engineering position will report directly to and support the efforts of the local Program and Account Manager in delivering projects, building strong client relationships, and growing the capabilities of the local substation practice. Assignments may vary in complexity and cover the full range of project planning through design and construction support as required: project work may range from substation and switchyard physical design and Protection and Control schemes at 12.5kV through 138kV to Smart Grid and substation communications projects.

Job Functions and Responsibilities
This senior level engineering position will apply a diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices as required for substation engineering design with overall functions and responsibilities that include but are not limited to the following:
• Lead (and self-perform) engineering design functions on substation projects, including providing direction and oversight of project staff
• Prepare engineered bid, construction and procurement packages, including specifications and drawings
• Perform engineering calculations as required
• Perform quality reviews on substation design packages to confirm compliance with industry standards, project basis of design, and other client expectations
• Apply National and International Standards including NESC, IEEE/ANSI, IEC
• Apply design guides such as RUS Bulletin 1724E-300 (Substation Design Guide)
• Assume responsibility and ownership of project team quality and schedule performance
• Work and coordinate with other engineering disciplines as necessary to complete projects
• Interface directly with project team members in remote office locations when additional resources are required to meet client expectations
• Interface directly with client engineers related to existing projects
• Seal and sign design packages as required
• Assist with the development of subordinate local engineers and technicians
• Assist the Program and Account Manager evaluate future client opportunities
Although Leidos has a local office, the work may entail working out of the client’s offices from time to time, including mentoring client engineering staff and/or working collaboratively on projects.


Qualifications:

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on Power Systems is a plus
• Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in medium and high voltage electrical utility substation electrical engineering
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE); ability to obtain registration in HI within 3 to 6 months of hire date
• Strong work experience and in-depth knowledge of:
o Substation Physical/Electrical Layout
o Substation Grounding
o Substation Station Service Design
o Substation Operational and Protection & Control
o Substation SCADA/Communications Design
o Equipment Specifications and Selection
• Familiarity with state and federal safety, regulatory compliance requirements and construction codes is a plus
• High level of computer competency and proficiency with software typically used during the execution of substation projects

Additional Qualifications:
• Prior experience with engineering team leadership
• Team player who can work effectively in a team environment
• Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to meet deadlines under high pressure situations
• Ability to manage and work on multiple assignments concurrently
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge of Microsoft ProjectWise document management software is a plus
• Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation drafting software
