Leidos’s Federal Health Operation currently has an opening for a VMware Systems Engineer in San Diego, CA.
The VMware Systems Engineer will be responsible for:
  • Install, configure and manage VMware virtualization environment.
  • Provide operation and sustainment support for the virtualization environment.
  • Work with multiple networking teams to resolve network issues as required.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots problems with the virtualization environment including Microsoft and Linux O/S.
  • Evaluates products and upgrades for appropriateness. Oversees and implements system upgrade strategies under DOD STIG guidelines.
  • Leads the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex solutions. Coordinates activities with other technical personnel as appropriate.
  • Develops and analyzes highly complex system standards, thresholds, and recommendations to maximize system performance.
  • Develops strategies to manage the frequency of appropriate support package/patch application (IAV).
  • Monitors performance data and provides appropriate recommendations, when required.
  • Provides technical leadership to internal and external personnel on highly complex system installation processes. Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Provides technical leadership to appropriate personnel on highly complex system administration activities.

  • Extensive VMware Virtualization Experience - design, implement, and manage VMware environment, including Datacenter cluster(s) and managed by vCenter. vCenter 5.5  and 6 Preferred.
  • Possess Comp TIA Security+ certification or an equivalent DoD 85770 IAT II baseline certification a plus.
  • VCP-DCV OR VCAP desired.
  • Hands on experience implementing and troubleshooting VMware products, including vCenter, vSphere, ESXI.
  • Strong IT infrastructure technical skills including x86 Server platforms, Windows Server and Linux operating system expertise, SAN / NAS storage technologies and TCP/IP networking.
  • Experience troubleshooting system level problems including server failure, OS tuning, network issues.
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and in a team setting.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to create technical documentation.
  • Independent problem solver with troubleshooting, decision making and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be on-call.
  • BS Degree and 3 years experience OR in lieu of degree High School Diploma and 6 years of relevant experience
