Senior Laboratory Technical Specialist
The Public Health Operations is currently seeking a Sr. Laboratory Technical Specialist to support a large healthcare contract. This position is contingent upon contract award.
Primary responsibilities are to provide technical assistance and facilitation for disease detection and surveillance, disease outbreak investigation and response, and other diagnostic activities. This position will facilitate planning and implementation of skills development and activities related to laboratory strengthening and real-time surveillance systems. This individual will be a lead contributor to and/or manager of activities related to laboratory strengthening and/or surveillance system improvement. The Senior Laboratory Technical Specialist will have expertise that that complements team skills thereby ensuring technical leadership of contract objectives.
The minimum qualifications for the Senior Laboratory Technical Specialist include:
• PhD in Laboratory Sciences or a related field, advanced training (e.g. CDC Epidemiology Intelligence Service training), and at least ten (10) years of progressively responsible work experience as an laboratorian or in disease surveillance. A MD, PhD or DrPH in epidemiology, public health or an equivalent field may be substituted if accompanied by extensive field experience;
• at least five (5) years of experience working in developing countries, preferably in Africa and/or Asia; and
• past track record of working effectively with CDC, WHO, World Bank or regional health agencies such as WHO/AFRO, WAHO, SEARO.
