The mission of the Data Science and Information Technology Program (DSITP) is to develop an enterprise-level, consolidated information technology infrastructure that provides exceptional IT capabilities to the Frederick National Labs for Cancer Research (NCI-Frederick/FNLCR) in support of basic, translational, and clinical cancer and AIDS research. The Biomedical Informatics Applications Development (BIAD)Group is part of the DSITP within Leidos Biomedical Research. The BIAD team is primarily involved in the development of the projects sponsored by NCI. Currently BIAD is developing the following high visibility projects NCI MATCH https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/clinical-trials/nci-supported/nci-match , Pediatric MATCH https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/clinical-trials/nci-supported/pediatric-match and NCI CTRP https://www.cancer.gov/about-nci/organization/ccct/ctrp
This position will be responsible for supporting the Biomedical applications being developed for NCI.
The Bioinformatics Analyst IV will be part of a fast-paced, cross-functional team of biologists, bioinformaticians and software developers working at the leading edge of Precision Medicine.
The Bioinformatics Analyst IV:
- Will maintain and extend existing bioinformatics workflows to meet the changing needs of current biomedical applications
- Will design, develop and deploy robust high-throughput, genomic data processing and analysis pipelines
- Will develop accurate, thorough and timely clinical reports for our stakeholders
- Mentor and supervise junior colleagues on coding, data processing and data analysis
- Is expected to be proficient with Python, Perl, and the Linux command line
- Requires a strong knowledge of bioinformatics file types including, but not limited to, VCF, FASTA/FASTQ, SAM/BAM, BED
- Requires a strong knowledge of next generation sequencing (NGS), variant annotation, and variant calling pipelines
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) in biomedical science/bioinformatics/math/computer related field from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education).
- Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible relevant experience
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Previous work with Clinical trials
- Experience with ThermoFisher Ion Reporter
- Cancer Informatics
- Adept at scripting languages: Perl, Python
- A deep understanding of NGS data processing and analysis
- Experience in Variant Analysis
- Knowledge of variant databases: COSMIC, dbSNP, ClinVar
