Leidos currently has an exciting opening for a Junior Level Radio Frequency Engineer, located at Eglin Air Force Base, in the wonderful Panhandle area of Florida.


The successful candidate will work with our Senior RF Engineers with the goal of developing the skills necessary to design an antenna with associated feed network, model the antenna design using a high fidelity simulator, evaluate the design with real measurements, and make necessary improvements. This is a unique opportunity for a young engineer to learn from the best to contribute to next-generation RF seeker hardware designs for critical guided weapon systems.


Successful candidate will perform radar system component technology development for imaging RF seekers on high speed guided munitions, focusing on the antennas and radomes. Perform modeling and simulation to quantify antenna and radome RF propagation performance, including running a modeling and simulation tools suite to support multi-fidelity models from empirical through solution of governing differential equations.


Develop and perform experiments from phenomenology-level to hardware component performance. Report to and coordinate with the program manager on a daily basis ensuring all objectives are met. Prepare written and verbal deliverables, reports and presentations for management and customer review as required by the contract.


Develop the RF seeker hardware trade space and perform subsystem technology trades. Identify technology maturation areas to be developed. Develop component technologies to advance the state of the art.


Candidate must have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and 0 - 2 years prior relevant experience, and working knowledge of antenna theory. Candidate must also have experience running software simulations and basic programming skills.




Knowledge of RF seeker hardware components including antennas, radomes, transmit/receive modules, waveguides, etc. for both gimbaled and strap down systems. Ability to apply modeling and simulation to develop seeker component models that can be integrated into a complete missile system simulation. Preference will be given for candidates with experience on supersonic weapon RF seekers including performance in a dynamic closing engagement, and for with demonstrated experience in low-cost munition seekers. Preference will be given to those with experience with innovative antenna and radome designs.



Resolves highly complex problems using significant application of technical knowledge, conceptualizing, reasoning and interpretation. Develops solutions that are highly innovative, and achieved through research and integration of best practices. Dependability, initiative, and ability to solve problems both as part of a team and as an individual performer is a must.



Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work in a collaborative, fast paced, team environment.

Software: Must be familiar with MS Office.

Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen with an active SECRET security clearance.

Desired Skills:

A graduate degree in engineering. Coursework in electromagnetics, antenna design, or RF scattering. Experience in Matlab, Simulink and/or antenna modeling software. Practical experience with RF hardware such as antennas and waveguides. Experience with antenna near field and far field ranges.
