FIPS 140 Tester (Columbia, MD)
The Leidos Associate Security Assurance Engineer in support of Common Criteria performs initial assessment of security functions; consults in development of process, design, and test documentation; and conducts the evaluation of security products based on available documentation. Given the wide range of security technologies, access to detailed proprietary information, and interaction with product development teams; this position offers a rare opportunity to rapidly gain experience with a full spectrum of security products and technologies.
The Leidos Associate Security Assurance Engineer in support of Cryptographic and Security Testing Laboratory (CSTL) performs initial assessments of cryptographic security functions; consults in development of a product's security design; and tests products against one or more of the following security standards; National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 for cryptographic modules, FIPS 201 for Personal Identity Verification (PIV) smart cards, Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) enterprise scanning tools and Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) for smart cards as well as associated standards in accordance with the NIST validation programs requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-The selected candidate will work on Common Criteria Evaluation projects as well as FIPS 140-2 validation projects and participate in varied computer security related projects for several Leidos commercial accounts.
-Typical projects within the CC and CST Labs involve:
-General security analysis.
-Design work (product architecture).
-System-level logical analysis.
-Product evaluations against Technology Type standards (Protection Profiles)
-Cryptographic and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) testing
-Cryptographic algorithm testing.
-Source code review activities in a variety of programming languages -Vulnerability testing.
-System-level logical analysis.
-Product evaluation against Technology and Security Type standards.
Our lab employees possess knowledge of general security, network security, operating systems, software programming, mathematics, digital logic, and communication skills (both oral and written).
-Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline with less than 2 years prior relevant experience (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related discipline).
-Experience with C, C++, Java languages, Perl, Ruby and development environments.
-Strong knowledge of computer security principles and best practices.
-Experience setting up networks and familiarity with subnets and routing.
-Knowledge of common security related protocols and their design (i.e. ssh, IPsec, TLS, etc.).
-Knowledge of cryptographic encryption algorithms, key exchange algorithms, hashing algorithms, PKI, etc.
-Experience building testing environments, performing testing and reporting results (technical writing).
-Strong ability to troubleshoot, strategize a solution and execute necessary steps.
-Knowledge of security/cryptography.
-Knowledge of wired and wireless networking standards.
-Vulnerability Analysis and/or penetration testing experience/expertise.
-Strong English (both oral and written) skills.
-Strong problem solving skills.
-Knowledge of Active Directory and Linux.
-Hands on experience using tools such as an oscilloscope, function generator, multimeter, sigal generator, etc.
-Knowledge of X509 certificates and their attributes as well as protocols such as CDP and OCSP.
