Global Information Grid (GIG) Service Management-Operations (GSM-O), a Defense and Intelligence Group of Leidos has an opening for a Network Engineer. Our customer is the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) located at Scott AFB, IL and acts as the provider of GIG/Defense Information System Network (DISN) services to the department of Defense (DoD) and national security organizations.


This successful candidate will need experience with maintaining, configuring, operating and troubleshooting network equipment (routers, switches and associated equipment).

General understanding of network topologies, both transport and IP.

Ability to communicate orally, and in writing.

In-depth knowledge of routing and switching protocols.

Current or Past experience with DOD networks such as NIPRNET/SIPRNET, DCN, etc.

Experience with configuration management database systems, such as Oracle Metasolve or similar would be a plus.

Experience with encryption devices and management systems.

Current CCNA, CCDA,CCNP, and/or CCIE certification.

ITIL Foundation certification.

Familiar performing within a fixed price, performance-based environment where performance is based on predetermined Service level Agreements (SLAs) or Acceptable levels of Performance (ALPs)

Familiarity with of DOD regulations and directives Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 2 years of professional experience; or no experience required with a related Masters degree. Considered experienced, but still a learner.

Assignments are received in task and objective oriented terms. The engineer will execute direction direction based on general policies and management guidance. Interprets and executes policies and procedures that typically affect subordinate organizational units. Recommends modifications to operating policies.

Accomplishes results through collaboration with other Network Engineers and, or exempt professional staff who exercise significant latitude and independence in assignments.

Effective communications skills: Be able to communicate with ease in front of large audiences of senior IT and communications personnel

Experience understanding and managing customer expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

* Support preparations of technical implementation plans to provide integrated solutions, including actions, milestones, timelines and critical paths required for complete solutions.

* Identification and management of issues, risks, dependencies

* Collaborate with key partners in various technologies to de-conflict efforts

* Status reporting to the Program Manager, Project Manager and customers

* Creating, documenting, and executing action plans

* Work with the customer and external stakeholders to accomplish program goals in which we are dependent on them completing tasks

* Manages multiple aspects of engineering tasks simultaneously

* Monitor, adjusts and reports on operations performance and schedule

* Some travel may be required (10%)

Requires BS degree and 2 – 4 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience. Additional related years of experience is accepted in lieu of a degree.

Required Experience

Currently possess an active Top Secret security clearance.

Provide specific detailed information for hardware and implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements

Conduct testing of network design

Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.

Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network

Specific responsibilities including but not limited to:

Develop test plans for unique network architectures

Provide support for Test and Acceptance of new hardware, devices, and or capabilities

Monitor and maintain managed network tools to track metrics; ensure systems are healthy and performing to a baseline standard

Transition new devices or capabilities to the operational environment

Update existing tool set displays and dashboards, as needed, to meet the customer's requirements

Develop new or revise existing procedures and standards for operating, maintaining, managing and integrating new devices

Support change management processes and validate configuration management databases during both the pre and post integration phases

Networking Equipment: (Primary) Cisco and Juniper switches, routers, firewalls. (Secondary) Optical/DWDM, ATM/TDM/Promina
