Corporate EH&S Engineer
Leidos is seeking a an experienced Corporate EH&S Engineer professional to join their Corporate EH&S team supporting our company’s unique and diverse portfolio of contracts. The position will report to the Director of Corporate EH&S and is based out of the metro DC area, with a focus on direct support of the U.S. southeast region.
This Corporate EH&S Engineer is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of Leidos Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) programs within an assigned region to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and Leidos EH&S requirements. The Corporate EH&S Engineer is expected to perform with minimal supervision and successfully interact with all levels of Leidos personnel to facilitate EH&S program and policy implementation.
Development and implementation of EH&S programs
Conducting EH&S inspections and risk assessments to ensure regulatory compliance and monitor EH&S program implementation
Conducting workplace industrial hygiene monitoring as needed (i.e., air sampling, noise monitoring, etc)
Participating in site accident/incident investigations and assessment of EH&S concerns
Serving as a subject matter expert in one or more EH&S program areas (e.g., industrial hygiene, laser safety, hazardous material shipping, radiation, electrical safety, commercial motor vehicle operations, hazardous waste management, etc.)
Developing implementable recommendations for corrective actions and documenting completion to address identified EH&S needs
MS (preferred) and/or BS degree in a biological, physical, or environmental science related field
8+ years of generalized experience with 5+ related “hands on” work experience implementing EH&S programs within a manufacturing and/or research environment
Must demonstrate strong verbal, written, analytical skills as well as have the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management
Experience designing and implementing EH&S processes and procedural documentation
Good understanding of EH&S laws and regulations and ability to effectively interact and communicate with regulatory agencies
Must exhibit excellent problem solving skills and attention to detail
Practical user skills with computer (database management, spreadsheets, and word processing)
CSP and/or CIH preferred
