Description:

Leidos has a career opportunity for a Linux and Windows Administrator that will serve as part of a team of technical experts responsible for the administration, engineering, implementation, installation, operation, and maintenance of Servers, Storage Area Network devices, company data backups, and Endpoint Protection architecture.  The network environment includes Windows Servers, Windows Workstations, Linux Red Hat and Centos systems. 

Perform Network System Administrator roles in addition to securing Windows and Linux systems, and maintaining that security posture.

A minimum of 3 years’ experience with Microsoft Server Windows client Linux, in a networked environment.

Administrate modern Windows core server components (Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory).

Work closely with network and storage engineers, mission directors, and developers.

What you'll be doing in this mission critical role:

•  Setting up and managing administrator, general user and service accounts for Linux and Windows systems in an Active Directory Environment.
•  Maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing system wide software, validating and implementing critical system patches, and allocating mass storage space.
•  Handles networking support, administration, overall strategy, design, implementation, and operational aspects of multiple systems, operating environments, and related software.
•  Implement Government Computer Security requirements on Windows and Linux workstations and servers.
•  Schedules, plans, and oversees system upgrades.
•  Develops functional requirements through interaction with end-users and coordinates with development team on systematic enhancements   or changes.
•  Performs fault isolation and diagnostic/assessment functions to include determination and execution of corrective action(s) on real-time basis.
•  Assists in planning for upgrades and replacements for the program assets reaching the end of their life cycle.
•  Supports asset acquisition, installation, configuration, and maintenance.
•  Performs administrative level installation, configuration, and maintenance on all components/assets associated with the program.
•  Supports the Information System Security Manager and Information System Security Officer as directed.
•  Supports senior staff as required and ensures customer requirements and project milestones are met.
•  Interfaces with functional users in both routine and reactive monitoring situations. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others.
•  Also required are communication and presentation skills and the ability to operate independently.
•  Provides technical support and hardware and software expertise for the windows and Linux Hosting team to ensure that systems operate accurately and efficiently in response to user requirements. It shall include such diverse tasks as installing applications, diagnosing and resolving system problems, testing software, and documenting operating procedures.
•  Assists with installation, upgrade, and maintenance, as needed, of applications (identified by the government) both freeware and   vendor supplied.
•  Provides Windows Server, Windows Workstation, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Unix systems installation and support in an enterprise production environment.
•  Records the problem symptoms associated with information system(s) and network components.
•  Provides resolutions for hardware and software problems.
•  Analyzes root causes where information systems do not perform as expected.
•  Refers other problems (e.g. networking) to the appropriate organizations.
•  Coordinates/schedules remedial actions (e.g. disk swapping, backups, maintenance fixes, etc.) with vendor and/or operations personnel.
•  Tracks status of all problems within the Linux hosting environment, through resolution.
•  Documents special procedures required for continuous operations of systems.
•  Reviews monitoring logs for problem identification and suggests resolutions.
•  Maintains statistical information to help track persistent problems using pre-defined log.
•  Installs and configures new hardware components for operations in a Data Center networked environment.
•  Installs Windows and Linux patches.
•  Builds new Windows Servers, Windows workstations and Red Hat Linux Systems.
•  Interfaces with customers as necessary to support their operational environment.
•  Assists with testing of software operations and Operating System upgrades.
•  Plans, conducts, and reports tests with appropriate staff.
•  Documents security procedures, on an as needed basis, according to security policy and guidelines.
•  Assist with the implementation of monitoring and reporting of unauthorized access attempts.
•  Configure security settings and security logs to report security problems.
•  Remediates identified security vulnerabilities by working closing with the Security Team.
•  Tracks system utilization, daily, to determine if problems are imminent.
•  Monitor and provide daily reports on system performance to pinpoint performance bottlenecks.
•  Provides technical input to evaluation of alternative methods.
•  Assists with documentation of procedures.
•  Develops and maintains detailed and accurate documentation as requested by the Service Manager or team lead. Documentation may be required for operational procedures, troubleshooting aids, and technical analyses for products, features, and capabilities.
•  Ensures all changes are logged through the use of hardcopy or electronic log records.
•  Required experience and skills include but are not limited to Red Hat Linux 6.0, LVM for RedHat, KickStart, Puppet, YUM, Satellite  and repository configuration, patch and software installs.
Required Qualifications:
•  At least three years of experience as a computer professional maintaining, configuring, installing, and supporting Red Hat Linux servers and resources.
•  Ability to analyze information requirements.
•  Ability to evaluate problems analytically and systematically and develop appropriate corrective action.
•  Ability to work cooperatively and to function well in a team environment
•  Excellent verbal and written communication skill to be able to ascertain user requirements and prepare documentation.
•  Excellent customer interface skills.
•  Security+ / DOD 8570 certification required or expected to obtain within 6 months of hiring.
•  Strong hands-on experience with Linux; Linux+ or Red Hat certification desired.
•  Knowledge Unix Workstations and server implementation, in parallel architectures, and video card graphics hardware and software.
•  Knowledge and ability to develop scripts to automate processes.
•  Ability to understand and capture computer system design, implementation, and operations requirements through interaction with users   and development teams.
•  Ability to manage user requirements, prioritize and develop project plans, manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, and  communicate with and understand the requirements of scientists and engineers in the deployment of Linux solutions.
•  Excellent written and oral communications skills.
•  Install new and rebuild existing servers, and configure hardware, peripherals and services, implementing system settings and storage   in accordance with standards and project requirements.
•  Assure daily backup operations complete successfully and all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the   appropriate media.
•  Support production systems as required by optimizing performance, resolving production problems, and providing timely follow-up on     reported problems.
•  Resolving customer issues that are moderately complex, integrating several technologies, ensuring service availability, and handling quality, outage management, subscription management

Qualifications:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Certification demonstrating Windows Server competency (MCSA/Windows Server, MCSE/Server Infrastructure) is strongly desired.

Experience in improving computer systems which are not following best practices or operate very inefficiently.

Experience with surviving inspections or external audits of security compliance.
