Leidos is looking for a Software Engineer to support the Army Geospatial Center focused on Geospatial application development in the areas of data transformation, test and evaluation, validation and tool development.
The ideal candidate will have experience with the Agile software development process; will have extensive troubleshooting skills; highly detail oriented; will have excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to communicate with a distributed team; the ability to work independently, with minimal guidance; and be self-motivated with a results-oriented mindset. Experience with varied programming languages, and varied development environments and configuration management systems is required. 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of 3-5 engineers supporting the Army Geospatial Center (AGC) on GIS data including transformation, validation and interoperability between multiple programs in the GIS mission space
  • Develop/implement software solutions and functionalities derived from customer requirements for Java-based web application software using an agile approach.
  • Use sound software engineering and object-oriented principles to ensure that developed code is maintainable, efficient, reliable, understandable, secure, and fault tolerant.
  • Be knowledgeable about secure software development principles and techniques and be able to apply them in support of Information Assurance/cybersecurity requirements
  • Use software tools in cooperation with continuous integration and test automation while supporting software reuse.  Provide assistance and guidance for assigned tasks to testers and integrators
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise from testing and/or using integrated/fielded systems
  • Document features and functionalities of assigned tasks
  • Support the software configuration management process

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below
  • Bachelor's Degree in software engineering, computer science, or related field; Master's Degree preferred.
  • 2-4+ years software development work experience 
  • The ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance 
  • Experience with Java application development and at least two other languages
  • Experience with XML-based structure, including using as scripting languages
  • Experience developing for both Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Additionally:

  • Working knowledge of software development environments and methodologies

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration
  • Proficient in Java based REST Web Services
  • Familiar with web-services architecture, interfaces, and infrastructure, both client and server
  • Familiar with GIS software. especially as a web service client, like ArcMap or QGIS
  • Familiar with web service servers, like ArcGIS Server and GeoServer
  • Familiar with Eclipse Integrated Development Environment and Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Familiar with Maven build methodology and automation tools
  • Experience working with databases including PostgreSQL/Oracle/SQLite
  • Experience with development of tools for geospatial technologies such as ArcGIS or QGIS
  • Familiar with Docker containerization technology
  • Experience analyzing code scan results and trouble-shooting and correcting software coding vulnerabilities
