The Advanced Solutions Group (ASG) at Leidos currently has an opening for an Embedded Controls Engineer to work in our King George, VA office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to contribute to the research and development of the next-generation directed energy (DE) weapons for US Navy warships. For this program, Leidos provides research, development, technology assessment, modeling and simulation, systems engineering, analysis, prototyping and testing of directed energy systems and their components.  We develop state of the art designs for high powered microwave (HPM) sources, pulsed power, prime power, high voltage (>1 kV), radio frequency antennas, and control systems that enable DE systems to be developed and deployed as rapidly as possible to support the warfighter in operation areas around the world.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Determine operating parameters and design approaches for DE embedded control systems
- Interact with users to develop control system requirements for new systems and/or develop necessary modifications for legacy systems.
- Select components and COTS equipment based on analysis of specifications, availability, cost, reliability and support.
- Complete documentation for assembly, installation, operation and maintenance.
- Support hazard analysis for DE system safety reviews

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below
- BS Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Computer Science
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- 5 years of experience in electronic and electromagnetic system design, analysis and testing
- 3 years of experience with programming microcontrollers, microprocessors, and programmable logic controllers

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration
- 5 years of experience with designing, populating, and troubleshooting rigid and flexible printed circuit boards (PCBs) with thru-hole and surface mount components 
- 5 years of experience with the design of double-sided and multilayer PCBs 
- 5 years of experience with designing PCB’s in Altium, Eagle, or a similar software 
- 5 years of experience with programming in C and VHDL
