Sr. Guidance and Control Engineer
Leidos currently has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Guidance and Control engineer in our Shalimar (Eglin), FL office.
The successful candidate will be performing guidance and control design, implementation into a simulation environment, and analysis. The candidate will apply their knowledge of guidance and control modeling and simulation to:
a) perform aerodynamic control and trim analysis given an aerodynamic model;
b) develop a benchmark maneuverability and intercept performance analysis of standard and morphing missiles in a 6DoF model;
c) develop and integrate dynamic articulation models for morphing missiles;
d) integrate a seeker model;
e) develop gain scheduled autopilot and guidance strategies for morphing missiles;
f) compare and contrast morphing and non-morphing missile effectiveness.
Candidate must have a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 10 plus years’ experience in guidance and control algorithm design, implementation, and testing in modeling and simulation.
Candidate should have the following skill set:
Complexity: develop innovative solutions to complex missiles guidance and control problems thru research and integration of best practices. Employ ingenuity and creativity to develop advanced guidance and control solutions to achieve customer performance objectives.
Communication: Must communicate with Leidos aerodynamics, seeker, and guidance and control personnel, and interact daily with customer program leadership and team members. Must develop a clear understanding of customer goals and objectives and shape work activities to satisfy them. Must present both verbal and written status on a regular basis, and prepare manuscripts for publication at technical conferences and for professional journals.
Knowledge: Experience with guidance and control modeling and simulation at the 6DoF level and proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink are required. Experience in intercept modeling of aerodynamically controlled missiles is required. Must show evidence of development in linear model-based gain scheduled robust control design, proportional navigation, analysis of homing loops, and Kalman filters.
Clearance: Candidate must possess an active Secret clearance, or be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance within a reasonable period of time.
Following is desired but not required:
Fifteen or more years’ experience preferred.
Experience in nonlinear or adaptive control methods.
